What is Bokeh?

Sunday Stills Challenge: Bokeh

This challenge proved to be more than just taking a picture and posting it for me. First of all, I had never heard the term before so I had no place to really start but just dive in and try to learn something new.

I did.

Bokeh, photography

I read a bit about this technique and looked at many examples. You may notice two very different types of photos here.

Bokeh, photography

When looking at the imagery, it seemed as if there was either a sort of outdoor and bright form…

…or a more dark with reflective results somewhere in or out of the focal point.

Bokeh, photography

There was some sort of focal point, yet the focus was on the blur and the impact it had on the viewer, not really the photo.

Bokeh, photography

Something that really stood out, at least for me, was that it was about interpretation. The Bokeh, or blur, sets a tone or feeling, for the capture. The blur, focal point, resulting ‘discs’, setting, or lighting are all up to the viewer.

Bokeh, photography

In the end, it is whether or not the image, the Bokeh, impacts your view.

It seems a bit like life. There are always two sides to a story and it is up to you to decide the one you see. It comes down to the viewer and the provoked feelings.

Bokeh like life:

  • blurred and focused
  • dark and light moments
  • a matter of interpretation
  • no real clear-cut answers
  • either way, it is all beautiful.

    • Thanks Pamela. I understand! Sometimes it seems as if what I think I am capturing for the photo turns out to not be it at all. : ) I guess that is a part of what motivates me. I keep trying to get it right which means I just keep taking more pictures.

  1. What is going on with the ad for Pillsbury? Is that something we will all be getting, or did you sign up with something like Ad Sense on Google?

Always good to bring us something new in the photography world.

    • I have no idea about the Pillsbury thing. I have no Ad Sense. I actually do not see any Pillsbury ad when I am on my blog. I have heard that ads will be placed on your blog for others to see. I see ads on others often. I will have to check into this. Maybe someone has some insight into this?
