What is a portrait?

A portrait is many things. It can be a representation, a likeness, a description, a study, or a portrayal even. When trying to decide what to do for this challenge, it came to me. Miss Sadie Lou.

No, she is not a person which is what most tend to think of when thinking of portraits. But she is a representation of pure loyalty, a likeness of what I wish I could actually be.

Miss Sadie is a description of honest giving, a study in what a true relationship should be, and an actual portrayal of unconditional love.

As for my tips on taking such photographs as portraits, I really do not have much to offer. I just shoot from the heart and look for the subject’s gifts, for what makes them unique and special. Miss Sadie Lou is a gift and taking her portrait just comes natural. She is a very special pup in my world.
