Sunday Stills ~ Bear Attraction

Someone mentioned in a comment on one of my “Life through the Lens” photos that I should look into the Sunday Stills challenge. I had not heard of this and have actually been curious about some of the different “Day” themes and challenges I have seen on many blogs.

The current Sunday Still challenge is Black and White or Sepia.  As most of you are beginning to discover, I have a slight hobby of taking random pictures…other than my usual Miss Stella photos.

I took this photo at sunset when driving down a country road.  Cliché as that sounds, it is true.  Actually not while driving, we did stop the car off the road to take the picture. The sunset was absolutely amazing and we noticed another car also trying to capture the moment.

I captured this at a neighboring field. I am not sure exactly why, but this crop has always caught my eye when I drove by a field of it. The color, texture, and movement has such simple beauty.

This is actually a photo of a broken tree branch (thank you Miss Stella!) and some of the flowers (also broken from the bush…thank you again Miss Stella!) from one of our Butterfly Bushes. I knew they would attract butterflies, but I never realized how many…and the bees!

This would be Miss Stella…staring at me…letting me know she would like some attention…please.  Speaking of attention, she and I were on a brief walk (still waiting to have stitches removed and get the go-ahead on more public adventures than just the vet and our back yard) and one of our neighbors wanted to take a picture … ‘of the bear’! They fell in love with Newfoundlands as they had never seen one before. I could not help but laugh…more have fallen under the spell of Newfness.

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ¤ Those are awesome photos, job very well done. Photos give us a chance to remember a few of the moments that we experience that might just have passed by… but instead, we capture them forever. I live out here in the country and right across from me are some wheat and grain fields… I have appreciation for your snapshots! Love the last one of ‘Miss. Stella’.

  2. What wonderful captures!
We get the bear comment a lot too.
Sherman is known as the kodiak bear when he goes to baseballs games.
One little kid one time actually thought he was a REAL bear and went running to his Mom!

    • Baaahaaa! I had to laugh…maybe I should not…but I did. : ) I had a student once that said they had to post signs around their farm saying “Please do not shoot. The ‘BEAR’ is actually a DOG!” I did NOT laugh at that at all. They were serious! I could not believe it. Someone had once tried to shoot during hunting season as they thought their sweet pup was a real bear. Yikes.
I bet Sherman is the hit at the games. Do you sit on the side where he can distract the other team? : )
      Thanks for the ‘wonderful captures’.

  3. I love the way you capture the beauty of each of your subject, from the fields to the adorable, Stella. And your narration of each photo makes the reader feel as if they were actually there. great pictures.

    • Wow…thank you so much. You always have such nice things to say… what a great gift. : ) I always enjoy your writing…posts, comments, any and all. : ) Your photos are also always amazing.

    • Thank you. It is just a little hobby. Something I like to do to try and be a little creative every once in a while. : ) Miss Stella does seem to find the camera…she cracks me up. : ) Such a Goof~Newf.

    • Thank you for saying such kind things. Your comments always make me smile. Miss Stella does tend to let you know when she is in the room and if she want your attention. It pretty much just takes a little look from her…those eyes! : )

  4. While I don’t miss the prairie I grew up on, not for a second, I have to admit there is a certain peacefulness about your photos that helps me relax.

Stella almost appears lion-like in that bottom photo. It is a very unique view of her. Very cool. :-)

    • Too grow up on a prairie had to fairly cool…although you sound as if maybe it was not so. I am glad these helped you feel some peacefulness and relax a little…maybe reframes those prairie thoughts you have just a tad? : )
Miss Stella is just plain ol’ unique… : ) Funny you should say ‘lion-like’ because the hb and I were talking about what she looks like when she runs and it finally hit us last night…like a lion! She uses her front legs in a very similar way to lions.

  5. There is something about the movement in a crop field that I also find very attractive and soothing. Maybe it the bigness of it. It can make a nice substitute if an ocean or large lake is not nearby!

    • I think you nailed it! The vastness of space lends itself to the feeling of endless possibilities. And the concept of it being a sub for an ocean or lake when not available has prompted me to look at them in a whole new way as the beach is a long way away! Thank you for the visit and very cool comment. : )

  6. Very nice photos all. I especially like that first one. Some of what I consider my best photos are those that I captured just by noticing the simple things going on in the world around me. There is magic wherever we look, if we just take the time to notice. :)

    Welcome to Sunday Stills!

    • Thank you so much. I appreciate your visit and comment : ) You are so right…we need to remember to pause and actually just look around us. We will most likely be surprised by what we actually do find. : )

  7. Welcome to Sunday Stills. I joined a few months ago and have been having fun taking the photos each week. I really liked yours today. Look forward to seeing you again.

    • Thanks for the “welcome” and the nice comment. I think I am going to enjoy these challenges. Your photos were very nice. The last one of the child with the stuffed bear was so sweet : ) I look forward to seeing you more often!

    • Thanks! The idea is pretty cool. You should join in. Your photos are always so stunning. : ) As far as I know you can join in anytime. Post your photo/photos anytime on Sunday and the challenge for the following Sunday is posted later that day so you can look for your next shot.

  8. You have a great eye for photos, my niece does as well. You both take phenonmenal pictures!

I am grateful that you share. Not sure if you know this or not, but some of the online photo services offer your photos on canvas so they look like a painting. Unfortunately the largest size they make is 8 1/2 by 11. I had one of my favorites of the hubby and Sampson made into a wall picture and I absolutely love it!

Sorry for rambling on, but I guess this is the right blog to do it on! :-)

    • Thank you so much! : ) I have seen some places that offer ‘posters’ but have not heard of the canvas ones. That sounds very cool. I will have to check it out. Thanks for telling me. And…ramble away! I love it!
