Spaying Miss Stella

Have you ever seen such a face?

It is now official. We have had Miss Stella ‘fixed’. What an odd term. There was nothing broken so there was no need to ‘fix’ anything.

What have you done to me?

This is so not cool. Surgery AND a bath…are you kidding me?

Miss Stella Rae had her surgery early Monday morning and is at home recovering. She did very well, probably better than us. Due to her size, she needed a larger dose of anesthesia than most average sized puppies. In addition, since she was just under 5 months, her being so young with so much anesthesia in her body caused her to have a little more difficulty ‘shaking’ the medicine.

Did not have to wait to hit the bottom to fall asleep.

Poor girl would fall asleep in our hands.

She was beyond sleepy all Monday through Tuesday. The poor girl was pretty much completely out of it.

So hard to see her struggle.

Seeing her so still and quiet was a tad bit disturbing and we had to remind ourselves that she needed the surgery.

Miss Stella was not all too impressed with us at this point.

She would look at us as if we were to blame (which I guess we are as we took her and had it done…she did not drive herself and sign the consent papers!). For a while, we thought she might hold it against us for some time.

Only ice chips please. No food or water. Uugggh.

She could not keep anything down so she was unable to drink or eat until very late yesterday, and that was minimal. We did give her ice chips (which of course she loved!) to keep her hydrated. It seemed to work for her, but her appetite is still not up to par. She did not eat her first meal (and then it was not her normal size) until a short while ago. It is always heart wrenching being unable to make your pup feel better.

Her sweet eyes tell it all. Even going out into the yard was difficult.

Time is pretty much the only thing that will work, and you need to let time pass in order for it to work.  Funny how you want time to slow down as you age, yet here I have willed it to pick up speed. Anything for Miss Stella to feel better.
